To be truly free we need to encompass all beings as “part of our lives”. From the people we know and love to the people we don’t either know or love. Freedom is being in your own power, feeling that you are leading your life from your inner core, being one with all.
Another translation of this verse goes: “There is no greater misfortune than feeling “I have an enemy”, for when “I” and “enemy” exist together, there is no room left for my treasure.
People will invariably come into our lives looking like enemies and when we start “fighting” this enemy, we are losing our personal power and wasting time and energy on something that does not need to be there. Things and people happen in our lives as a personal thing to learn from. The enemy that just stepped in is there to give us a valuable teaching about ourselves and fighting back is fighting the learning experience, thus there can be no room for the treasure.
Everything that happens to us is a personal experience, a chance to evolve further…even the “bad” things. There is no good or bad, there simply is, and that is the gift of learning. Next time an adversary steps in to your life to ruffle your feathers; connect inwards with yourself and look at what is happening within; your reactions, feelings and thoughts on the matter, here is mighty learning to be had…if you don’t fight. That “enemy” might be the greatest gift, the one that pushes you the next step and makes everything come out okay
